Abstract

The direct digital radiology can be applied by using photostimulable phosphor plates (PSP) or sensors based on silicon chips (CCD or CMOS). Two of the detectors advantages are related to the reduction at the x-ray exposition time and for being a filmless technology, it reduces cost with processing. The pixel values given to the final image gray levels can be used for quantitative evaluation of the periapical bone. These pixel values may be influenced by the exposition time, scanning time for the PSP plates. Therefore, this study has as goal evaluate the differences for pixel values, in several consecutive expositions, between the PSP System Digora (Soredex) and the CCD System Visualix HDI (Dentsply/Gendex) regarding the periapical inflammation induced in rats. The radiographic results will be compared to the microscopic findings of the same regions.
