Abstract

This undergraduated research project is focused on finishing the synthesis of (+)-Polyoxamic acid. This poly-hydroxylated aminoacid is part of the chemical structure of a class of nucleosidic antibiotics named as polyoxins. These antibiotics are very active against fungi and could represent a new class of drugs to treat some diseases caused by these pathological agents. To achieve our objective we intend to use a synthetic strategy already established in our laboratory. It will be necessary scale up some reactions and carried out two new one (two final steps) to finish the entire synthetic sequence. The success of this project opens the perspective to use Morita-Baylis-Hillman adducts as substrate for the synthesis of structurally complex natural products. (AU)
