Abstract

Supervision is studied as an instrument of nursing health management, specially of human resources management. This study aims to analyze the knowledge on this issue in order to extend apprehension and attention to health needs of users/population and to ensure support for professionals. In the nursing area, there is a lack in the literature on this issue, but relevant studies were developed by Eliete Maria Silva. This author identified three dimensions in supervision: control, education and political articulation (Silva, 1991); this activity is developed by nurses mainly centered in the restrict control of tasks and procedures (Silva, 1997); and, also professionals recognize the pejorative and rigid character that they attribute to control, either by its technoburocratic sense in which control has an end on itself or because it aims middle level nursing workers (Silva, 2007). The objective of this study is to analyze supervisors´ conceptions on the supervision activity of nursing workers in a basic health unit (BHU). The specific objectives are: to identify and analyze work situations which led to supervision, purpose of supervision, potentialities and limitations of shared supervision among nurses and doctors. This is a qualitative study developed in the Samuel B.Pessoa Heath Center School, in the city of São Paulo. Data collection will be performed by means of semi-structures interviews with professionals who perform supervision of middle level nursing workers , specially nurses and doctors, and the technique of thematic analysis will be used in the study.
