Abstract

This research aims a study of the setting in the short stories "The river" (1953), "The comforts of home" (1965) and "Good country people" (1955), by the writer Flannery O'Connor. The main objective of this study is to identify which settings, or which of their elements, such as objects and colors, compound to a better understanding of the stories, and analyze the role of 'representation' played by many of them. Therefore, the theoretical texts in which this research is based on are "Espaço e romance", by Antônio Dimas, "O sistema dos objetos", by Jean Baudrillard, "A cor no processo criativo", by Lilian Ried Miller Barros, and other books concerning the setting and Flannery O'Connor's literary production.
