Abstract

AbstractA polyvalent analytical flow system will be proposed for sulfide, sulfite and ethanol monitoring in samples relevant to the ethanol production. Solenoid pumps will be used as fluid propeling device, generating pulsed flow characteristic of the multi-pumping flow systems. The methods involve gas diffusion, online detection and spectrophotometric detection. The N,N-dimethyl-p-fenilenidiamino, malachite green and Cr (VI)reagents will be used for in situ determination of sulfide, sulfite and ethanol, respectively.Influence of the implementation of pulsed flows will be evaluated regarding mixing conditions of the involved solutions, heat transfer and gas diffusion. The Schlieren effect will be also evaluated. The analytical systems should be simple and robust in order to be able its use in industrial laboratories. According to the quantities of chemical species produced in the fermentation, one intends to contribute to the selection of Sacharomices cerevisiae strains. To this end, fermentations will be conducted in the laboratory mimicking those from industries.
