Abstract

The Specific language impairment (SLI) is a heterogeneous clinical condition, with significant prevalence in the masculine gender, since in the families of the individuals the probability to occur this picture is approximately four times bigger. The familial nature of the related impairment has been studied a lot and most of the time confirmed. Considering that the studies point the occurrence of alterations of verbal and writing language in members of families of individuals with confirmed diagnosis of SLI and still, considering that in Brazil, studies of this nature are restricted, this study intends to verify the occurrence of complaint of language and writing in the families of individuals with SLI. Twenty five individuals with diagnosis of SLI and their respective families will be selected. The individuals will be able to belong to any age range, once they have the diagnosis with SLI supplied from a multidiscipline team. From each proband (member with SLI diagnosis) questionnaire with the nuclear familiais members will be applied (parents and brothers) and when these members report the existence of complaint in members not nuclear (grandparents, uncles and cousins), they will be interviewed as well. The interview will be always carried through with the adults and they must supply informations on their children, when younger then 18 years. The interview will be semidirected and will have two topics of inquiry: description of difficulties with the verbal and writing language and current difficulties. The results will be evidenced in tables and graphical and the statistical analyses will involve the use of absolute and relative frequencies. (AU)
