Abstract

The development of reading and writing skills for the deaf is essential for the access to literate society, including educational and professional quality, and the effective participation of people in the society as a whole. The speech pathologist has an important role in building strategies for the adaptation of educational programs for the deaf, using visual resources that facilitate the communication with the deaf and the understanding of the linguistic differences between sign language and written Portuguese. This research will involve three other studies with graduation students: 1. Interference of visual stimuli in the written production of deaf signers without complaints of writing impairment; 2. Interference of visual stimuli in the written production of deaf signers with complaints of writing impairment; and 3. Interference of visual stimuli in the written production of listening scholars without complaints of writing impairment. Purpose: To analyze and compare the relationship between different types of visual stimuli and written productions of deaf signers with and without complaints of writing impairment. Furthermore, we intend to draw a profile of different types of visual stimuli in written production of students without hearing complaints of writing impairment. Method: 30 deaf students without complaints of writing impairment, 30 deaf students with complaints of writing impairment and 30 listener students without complaints of writing impairment will participate in this study. The selected subjects will be required written productions based on different types of visual stimuli: an action picture and a sequence of pictures. Analysis: The productions will be analyzed and compared in qualitative and quantitative manners. (AU)
