Abstract

Studying factors that might influence bone regeneration is of fundamental importance in the clinical recovery of patients who have suffered trauma, particularly athletes and the elderly. Multiple resources and medicines have been studied and used in treating these conditions, but there is need to establish protocols to determine dosages and treatment regimen and duration, to assess their effects at the cellular level. Therefore, the objective of this study is to evaluate in vitro the effect of the anabolic steroid nandrolone decanoate on the proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts (lineage OSTEO-1). For the analysis of cell proliferation, growth curves were drawn after 24, 48 and 72 hours of culture using the MTT method. The assessment of cell differentiation will be made through the measurement of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in lysates of the cultures using a commercial kit specific, after the incubation period of 72 hours. Cell cultures will serve as untreated control. Will be conducted three independent experiments and the results will be submitted to statistical analysis.
