Assessment of setting time, solubility, disintegration and sealing ability of endodontic sealers with silver zinc zeolite

Abstract

The endodontics sealers must possess some properties. Between them, it can be cited the correct setting time, the resistance to the solubility and disintegration, the sealing ability of root canal and the antibacterial activity. The purpose of this work will be to evaluate the setting time, the solubility, the disintegration and the sealing ability of endodontic sealers: Endofill, AH Plus, Sealer 26 and Sealapex pure or added of antimicrobial zeólito. First, the setting time test of endodontic sealers will be carried through and the next, the evaluation of solubility and disintegration will be made. For this, samples will be made with the sealers added with 10% of the zeolite or not (control). The samples will be weighed in one precision scale and taken to one chamber with relative humidity of 95% (37ºC), where they will be kept during one week. Next, they will be placed in dessicator contend sulfuric acid (24 h). After this period, the samples will be weighed again and determined the solubility and disintegration of the materials. For the evaluation of the sealing ability, 40 teeth will be filled by the technique of vertical condensation and placed by 48 hours in one oven (37ºC). Next the samples will be placed in aqueous solution of methylene blue (0,5%) and again keeped in an oven. The root canal will be sectioned in the mesio-distal direction and, after this, cutted. The endodontic filler will be removed to visualize the coloration of the methylene blue. The evaluation will be made with one microscope. The data will be analyzed statistically by using One-way Analysis of Variance.
