Abstract

The exposition risk to biological material is a reality for nursing professionals who are directly involved in the care of the patients. In the decade of 80´s, with the sprouting of the aids and the determination of the vehicles of transmission of the HIV, the concern with the possibility of this type of transmission of the virus became more evident. Although the risk of transmission of infectious illnesses to health professionals as a result of the exposition to biological material is known, it is estimated that great part of the accidents is not informed and consequently, it turns to be impossible to know the certain number of infections that results of these accidents. The surgical center has been pointed as a sector with the biggest Risk Coefficient (RC) regarding to industrial accidents with biological material. The objective of this project is to determinate the tax of underreporting of occupational accidents with biological material of the nursing team in a surgical block in an university hospital in the State of São Paulo and it is also part of major project that is in development. It is a descriptive prospective exploratory study that will be carried through by the active search of the cases of underreporting accidents with biological material. The data will be collected by individual interview and stored in a structured data base in the program Statistical Package Social Science (SPSS). It is expected, by means of this research that will be possible to get scientific evidences that can contribute to the implementation of educative programs aiming the prevention of accidents and the reduction of the underreporting tax.
