Abstract

The Heart failure (HF) is an increasingly frequent syndrome and a major cause of hospitalization among the cardiovascular diseases, causing high social and economic costs. In the United States, approximately five million people are affected by HF, and more than 550 thousand new cases are diagnosed annually. In 2007, in Brazil, cardiovascular diseases represented the 3rd cause of hospital admissions in the SUS, and heart failure the most frequent cause. The Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) is one of the most frequent causes of morbidity in Brazil and the world, being responsible for the development of cardiovascular diseases. In the Framingham study, 90% of cases of heart failure had a history of hypertension. In most cases, the SAH reflects a systolic dysfunction, associated with ventricular dilatation, leading to loss of myocardial contractile capacity. Once installed, the ventricular systolic dysfunction usually worsens, often, in unpredictable ways. Multivariate analysis identified several prognostic markers of mortality, and some prognostic models have been described and validated in both the evaluation of heart transplant and to establish worst survival in chronic patients. Even knowing the importance and prevalence of the heart failure due to hypertension, we not found studies in the literature demonstrating the prognostic markers of mortality from this syndrome in the contemporary era. Objective: To evaluate the presence of adverse prognosis in patients with chronic heart failure secondary to hypertensive cardiopaty in the contemporary era of chronic heart failure treatment. Materials and methods: A retrospective longitudinal cohort study by examining the medical records, taking into account variables relating to the admission physical examination, routine ancillary tests performed during the first 6 months of monitoring, in addition to medication and dosage used in the last consultation.
