Comparison among expectative before and satisfaction after treatment among patients receiving removable partial dentures

Abstract

Oral rehabilitation using removable partial dentures (RPD) should play an important role on patients' systemic and oral health. Patient's acceptation for wearing an RPD involves several aspects, from biological, mechanical, aesthetical and psychological origin. So, satisfaction with RPD involves several factors, which should be technical and patients' related. Considering the above, the aim of the present project is to evaluate expectations before and satisfaction after RPD therapy in 44 patients from São José dos Campos - Brazil (power sample=0.602). In order to evaluate expectations before and satisfaction after therapy, a visual analogue scale (VAS), from 0 (worst results) to 10 (best results) will be applied. For both pre and post VAS scoring, patients should attribute four scores: to aesthetic aspect, masticatory function, comfort on wearing and phonetics. Other variables that will be also noted are gender, age, Kennedy's classification of partially edentulous arches. A questionnaire using a Lickert scale will be also applied to evaluate patients' satisfaction regarding dentist/patient relationship. The data will be tabulated and statistically analyzed. Paired tests will be applied and, if normal distribution is achieved, the test will be Paired Student T testy. If there is not normal distribution, Wilcoxon test should be applied. In order to analyze the aswers from Lickert scale, two ratios equality test should be applied.
