Abstract

Nursing has an important role in patient care when it comes to urinary elimination. This project's general objective is to investigate how the urinary elimination process occurs in hospitalized patients; the specific objectives are to carry out an integrative review of the topic and to examine, along with the patient, its urinary elimination process. Descriptive, transversal study, submitted to the Research Ethics Committee of the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto College of Nursing (Judgment), to be held in a medium-sized hospital in the State of São Paulo. The literature's integrative review will be realized along with the MEDLINE, LILACS and Web of Science data bases, in articles published on nursing journals, in the period of 2000 to 2010, fully available, that answer the guiding question: "How has the clinical patients' urinary elimination been done?" The data gathering will be done along with the clinical patients by interview, trough a collection instrument that contains characterization data about the subjects, clinical aspects and characterization of urinary elimination process; during 15 days, with all of the clinical patients interned in one of the studied hospital's wards. In the research will be considered patients interned for 5 days or more, with more than 18 years of age, oriented and that consent with the study trough the Free and Informed Enlightened Consent Form. During the period of interview, the aspects associated to the urinary elimination process of the patient will be observed, supported by a second instrument of semi-structured observations. Before collecting data, a pilot test will be done, in order to evaluate the collection instruments. The pilot test will be held at a hospital ward different than the ward designated to the study, 20 days prior to the stipulated date to start the data gathering, during one day, with all the interned patients that match the research's inclusion criteria. The analysis of the interviews will be done through the software "Excel". The contents of the interview and of the observation will be analyzed, through integrative review of the subject and presented in the form of discursive report.
