Abstract

The proposed project concerns the characterization of mixed-metal, monocrystalline systems of interest to particle catalysis in small organic molecule oxidation fuel cells. The target area will be the enhanced platinum catalysis through vacuum annealing with gold, and modifications by ruthenium and osmium ad-metals. The emphasis will be on surface geometry effects and surface dynamics. The work will mainly be carried out by the use of electrochemical techniques and electron spectroscopes of ultra-high vacuum surface science, and will provide molecular-level data in the field of heterogeneous electrocatalysis.
