Abstract

Research conducted will address the following specific aims: To investigate through toxicological studies the interactions between particulate matter and gaseous copollutants in producing harmful short-term adverse health effects. To determinate through toxicological studies the most biologically importante physical and chemical characteristics and constituents of particulate matter that produce adverse health effects. To define the most biologically important constituents and characteristics of particulate matter that might adversely affect health, especially for potentially susceptible subpopulations. To define the biological mechanisms by which cardiac effects occur. (AU)
