Abstract

In this project we apply Description Logic (DL) modeling tools to reconstruct part of the GALEN Medical Terminology. Our objective is to explore the power of DL to construct a set of medical objects for multiple purposes based on linguistic knowledge and logical relations. A sub area of Medicine is selected (hypertensive disease) and we build 'knowledge pieces'. Our research hypothesis is that the representation of medical knowledge using Description Logic can be used by Object-Oriented methods and technologies in order to implement 'semantic web components'. Those components are then stored into a web server containing medical objects for multiple use, including the construction of a DSS. (AU)
