Abstract

A Família Sparassidae Bertkau caracteriza-se pela presença de uma única sinapomorfia: uma membrana trilobada na extremidade distal dos metatarsos das pernas. Inclui aranhas errantes de grande porte, que apresentam pernas laterígradas com duas unhas tarsais e escópulas nos tarsos e metatarsos. Embora pouco estudado, este grupo é bastante freqüente em coleções aracnológicas devido ao grande tamanho de alguns exemplares. As relações de parentesco entre Sparassidae e as demais famílias de Araneae são ainda controversas. A família é freqüentemente associada à Selenopidae, Thomisidae e Philodromidae, devido à condição laterígrada das pernas. Segundo o mais recente catálogo, é composta atualmente por 885 espécies em 87 gêneros, amplamente distribuídos nas zonas tropicais e subtropicais do planeta. A despeito desta abundância, apenas as regiões Australiana e Oriental apresentam a fauna razoavelmente bem estudada. A região neotropical conta com um elenco de 154 espécies distribuídas em 25 gêneros, dos quais 19 são exclusivos. Este projeto propõe a realização de uma análise cladística, ao nível de gêneros, para a família e uma revisão taxonômica dos gêneros neotropicais. Os gêneros considerados válidos, bem como suas espécies-tipo, serão redescritos e ilustrados. (AU)
