Abstract
The aim of this project is to study the systematics and distribution of the main families of haplogyne spiders from the Neotropical region. The taxa included are Mygalomorphae, Haplogynae and Palpimanidae, all of which present the haplogyne type of genitalia, with females presenting fused copulation and fertilization ducts and males presesenting very simple palps devoid of accessory sclerites. Amongst the more objectives are the increase in the knowledge of Oonopidae systematics, as part of the PBI/AMNH/USA project; taxonomy and phylogeny of families such as Sicariidae, Scytodidae, Pholcidae, Segestriidae and ldiopidae, all of which are the focus of ongoing projects; compilation of a DNA database for these groups and implementation of molecular phylogenetic analyses; delimitation and diagnosis of genera or groups of species currently being revised, according to the results of phylogenetic analyses; and diagnosis and descriptions of new genera and species, within a phylogenetic context.
