Abstract
Zoological collections have great cultural and scientific importance, because they sheltered not just the specimens collected and studied, but also the associated data, which represents a potential of information about biodiversity, ecosystems and natural resources. The Museu de Zoologia of the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (ZUEC), a emerging institution in the São Paulo State, contributes significantly to the scientific collection of marine and terrestrial invertebrates from Brazil, and hold a relevant arachnid collection. The main goal of this project is to enhance the arachnid collection (ZUEC ARA) with taxonomic and systematic phylogenetic studies of the spiders deposited in it, especially focused on the tropical wolf spiders of Acanthocteninae (Ctenidae, Araneae). Furthermore, to promote curatorial work, to scan the collection data, and to continue with programs of material exchange, loans or donations with other institutions. The project also includes students supervision, to promote the training of new taxonomists and to established a new line of research in the ZUEC. The specific objectives of the proposal are: 1, Acanthocteninae (Ctenidae) phylogenetic analysis using morphological and molecular data of; 2, Acanthocteninae taxonomic revision; 3, ZUEC collection trusteeship; 4, classification and scanning of specimen data; 5, identification and description of new Ctenidae taxa; 6, field collecting and incorporation of new specimens into the collection; 7, tissue collection for DNA extraction of South American spiders; 8, training of a trainee and a master degree student; 9, participation in national of international congresses of Zoology, Arachnology or Evolution.
