Abstract

This project has two focuses with a common purpose, to work and expand the systematic and distributional studies of the main haplogynous spider families of the Neotropical region. We consider the target of this study to be the Haplogynae and Palpimanidae araneomorphs, spiders that present a haplogynous condition of the genitalia, that is, a female vulva with a blind bottom, with fused copulation and fertilization ducts and a male palp with a simple general shape and almost no accessory sclerites. In addition, with the evolution of this work, there will be an increase in the sampled material and the need to disseminate the data, showing how much we have to qualify and modernize the databases of the collections of the Laboratory of Zoological Collections of the Butantan Institute (IBSP). This implies making these data accessible to the national and international scientific community. Among the proposed objectives, we can highlight the expansion in the knowledge of the systematics, taxonomy and phylogeny of spiders of the families Sicariidae, Scytodidae, Oonopidae, Ochyroceratidae, Tetrablemmidae, for which there are lines of research in progress; tissue bank for spiders of these and other families of general interest, molecular phylogenetic analyses; re-delimitation and diagnosis of genera or groups of species that are being revised. In addition to these objectives, we intend to meet the wishes of funding agencies and the scientific community that seek free access to information contained in national scientific collections, through the database of IBSP zoological collections, updated and managed by Specify; with the teams trained with this program and, finally, to have data from the collections, digitized catalogs of this type and species distribution data, made available on an IBSP website, which still does not exist.
