| Abstract | |
The favelas constitute a consolidated reality in the city of Sao Paulo. Despite the infrastructural lacks, the favela\'s urban interstices configure potentialities for promoting urban life, community cohesion, mobility, leisure, income generation, and environmental comfort, in urban and building scales. Thus, how to enforce the latent urban opportunities of the favelas\' urban interstices and interfaces? The objective is characterizing and experiencing the environmental, urban and social requalification of the research object, the urban interstices and interfaces of the Paraisópolis Favela, the second biggest one in Sao Paulo. The Method is fundamentally empiric, starting with the existing situation evaluation, from pre-established criteria, followed by the proposal of alternatives and strategies for the appropriation of the favela\'s urban interstices and interfaces as effective living spaces for urban life. Drawing is a fundamental investigation tool. The overlap of environmental, urban and social strategies, involving different scales and stakeholders, focusing in the reactivation of interstitial spaces and the permeabilization of the built environment leads to the favela\'s enhancement, as an urban organism to inspire the reconstruction of the formal city.
