Morphologic and immunohistochemical classification in tissue microarray (TMA) of non-Hodgkin lynphoma in dogs accorging to the criteria of Histological Classification of Hematopoietic Tumors of Domestic Animals (WHO)

Abstract

Lymphomas are among the most common neoplasms in dogs and have several features in common with lymphoma of human, and therefore, the classifications used are based on those proposed for human lymphomas. The increase in the number of cases of lymphoma in humans during the last decades makes the comparison between the two kinds of extreme importance, since both share the same environment and are subject to the same environmental influences, which makes the dog a biological sentinel very useful. Objective of this work is to apply the criteria of the World Health Organization (WHO) for canine lymphoma comparing them to the updated Kiel classification, using the immunohistochemical evaluation for biological markers of cancer (Ki-67, p53 and Caspase-3) by the method of Tissue microarray (TMA), compared to the conventional method, and to evaluate the efficiency of PAX5 BSAP (B cell specific activator protein) as a marker of B-cell lymphomas compared to CD79a. In the present study, we conclude that the criteria established by Histological Classification of Hematopoietic Tumors of Domestic Animals (WHO) allow correlation with the types of lymphoma described by the Kiel classification. The method allows the evaluation of MRI markers of proliferation and apoptosis in canine lymphoma regardless of the diameter of colors. For B-cell lymphomas canine anti-Pax-5 antibody was more efficient than the marker anti-CD79a antibody should be associated with immunophenotyping panel (AU)
