Abstract

The intense natural dynamic of the coastal zone has a remarkable fragility to the natural processes in the area, which makes them areas with natural instability. Since the increasing of the urbanization process these areas are being transformed as required by the human needs, increasing the instability of the natural systems and the number of risk situations such as gravitational processes and floods. The north coast of Sao Paulo state has an enormous environmental fragility together with a big pressure of land use, making it very important to develop a study of the Environmental Zoning of the city of Caraguatatuba, using the methodology proposed by Rodriguez, Silva e Cavalcanti (2004) in 'Landscape Geoecology'. Using research and analyzing the natural and the social-economic views, the primary goal of this work is to define the landscape units of the area, having a of maps in a scale 1:50.000 as the final product (AU)
