Abstract

Based upon the principles and procedures of Discourse Analysis, having Michel Pêcheux and Eni Orlandi as references for this area, we have searched the ways of meanings production (and meaning effects) on women and city in a material composed of three Brazilian TV shows. The shows are: Aline, aired by Rede Globo during the years 2009 and 2011; Antônia, aired by Rede Globo between the years 2006 and 2007; Alice, aired by the cable channel HBO-Brasil during the years 2008 and 2010. We have observed that the shows mobilize the discussion on the subject and the urban space, and it is not any subject or any urban space, it is the woman and the city of São Paulo gaining visibility through the eyes of the TV media. In this way, we start from the premise that the shows produce interpretations on women and the city of São Paulo, that is, they are interpreted women and city. Considering the set of different materialities which constitute this audiovisual textuality we analyze in our thesis, specially, the relationship of meaning established between verbal and visual, investigating, respectively, the speech of the mains characters and the frames showed in the episodes. With that, we inquired: which interpretation gestures on the relationship between women and the city of São Paulo are produced and how are they materialized on/by the TV shows Aline, Alice and Antônia? This research question was a guideline, guiding us through our reflection route. Therefore, we realized that the interpretation gestures are structured by a regularity in the discursive process: the regularity of the relationship between the inscription of the city in the woman and of the woman in the city. Taking this discursive process as a starting point of our analytical investment, we understand that a constitutive relationship between woman and city was produced, resulting in the fact that the city and the women were signified together, not separately. City and women linked by an effect of one being part of the other. And this inscription relationship was also understood under the polysemic movement, as women and city do not inscribe on each other in a single way, because the relationship of inscription is signified in the interior of discourses which are distinct and determined (AU)
