| Abstract | |
In this doctoral thesis I aim to reflect on processes of change in visibility regimes of homosexuality in contemporary Brazil and its implications on the production of spaces, relationships and subjects. Thus, I developed fieldwork from the cities of São Paulo and Barretos between 2013 and 2016. In this process I was able to establish contact and follow the transits, or "rolês", of interlocutors who were usually adolescents or young people with homosexual or bisexual conducts, of popular strata and residents of peripheries. This contact allowed me to observe the way they produced spaces, established relationships and produced themselves by considering financial constraints, segregationist urban dispositives and possibilities for reprisal in terms of the visibility of the self and the visibility of its affections. It also allowed an analysis of social transformations whose effects became more expressive from the 1990s in Brazil, such as the increasing visibility of homosexuality in the public sphere, a growing demand for government policies aimed at lesbians, gays, bisexuals, travestis and transsexuals and the rise and specification of a market aimed at this population. Amid transits through/between spaces with my interlocutors, I identified some of the ways in which they elaborated and experimented cities through which the "rolê" took them, whether composing different body styles, investing in artistic careers, becoming militants or articulating support and protection networks (such as "LGBT families"). The visibility of the self and the visibility of its affections, the composition of corporal styles and the transits in groups produce the "close", which is often marked by situations of violence against these adolescents and young people or among them, the "xaxos". The reflection on my interlocutors, based on ethnography focused on their transits through urban space and attentive to the different regimes of visibility in which they were inserted, contributes to the knowledge about processes of mutual constitution of spaces, relations and subjects and about changes in social conventions of gender and sexuality in contemporary Brazil (AU) | |
