Abstract

Taking as sources the writings of Diodorus Siculus (c. 90 ¿ 30 BC), Quintus Curtius (c. 1 st. century A.D), Plutarch of Chaeronea (c. 45 ¿ 120 AD) and Arrian of Nicomedia (c. 90 ¿ 145 AD), partaking in the textual tradition about Alexander, The Great (356 ¿ 323 A.D.), the research aims to the analysis of the so called barbarisation of the conqueror, understood as an assumption of some of the formalities from the Persian monarchy. Hence, emphasys is given to Alexander¿s desire to implement the obeisance ¿ the action of bowing to the knee in front of the monarch ¿ incorporate part of the Great Kings¿ dressing and sitting on the achaemenid throne, besides incorporating persian soldiers to the macedonian troops and betroth the bactrian princess Roxane. Also, are highlighted the reaction from the veteran warriors of Alexander to these incorporations. Established the sources and the thematic frame, the thesis has the objective of emphasizing the construction of the Persian otherness in each one of the sources, enhancing its answers to the barbarisation of the conqueror, as to measure the hipothesis that, in a wide array of times, the sources seem to overcriticize the persian barbarian instead of the assumption of the persian regalia by Alexander (AU)
