Abstract

This research is focused on the analysis of transits made by Campinas' periphery youngsters that impersonate and aspire a drag queen career, presenting in nightclubs, contests and LGBT parades in Campinas and other cities. A good number of these youngsters come from underprivileged backgrounds and the majority of them consider themselves black. The methodology here is fundamentally ethnographic, combined with in-depth interviews and participant observation. In doing so, by mapping the networks and transits of these drag queens, I intend to look to their primary gender experimentations in the Bento Quirino Square, place of young LGBT nightlife, passing through the first performances, with special attention to the Padre Anchieta's New Talents Annual Contest - organized by and placed in the Padre Anchieta Community (located in the Nova Aparecida district, in Campinas) -, and, finally, to the local and regional nightclubs and parades presentations. I seek to apprehend, by considering the articulation of social markers of difference on my approach of these transits, how the drag queens in question compose their style and how their careers are constituted (AU)
