Abstract

This thesis analyzes the occurrences of the formula "consciência negra" ("black consciousness") and its reformulations in the contemporary Brazilian discursive universe. The theoretical basis comes from Discourse Analysis, particularly the notion of discursive formula (KRIEG-PLANQUE, 2003, 2010) and the concepts of scenography and discoursive atopy (MAINGUENEAU, 2008a, 2010a, 2015). Some conceptual development is proposed to the notion of formula, such as the "discursive places of memory" (an additional property to those already defined as constitutive of formulas) and the existence of what I am calling the discursive pericenography, a sort of peripheral (and parasitic) enunciation beside the "main" scenography. The corpus is composed by texts of different genres, mainly from the journalistic field, collected on newspapers and magazines with national circulation, in their printed and digital versions, in the editions of November 20 (the Black Consciousness Day), from 2011 to 2017. It is intended to analyze how "consciência negra" functions as a privileged "place" where "different social actors organize, through discourses, the relations of power and opinion" (KRIEG-PLANQUE, 2010, page 09). There are some racists discourses that produce a supposed aura of engagement with the Black Movements. In this case, an anti-racist efficacy of the formula "consciência negra" functions as a sort of "Trojan horse", undermining (by exposing) those discourses that intend to circulate through social space as sympathizers of Black Movements and their demands. Further this, the research is justified by the absence of linguistic-discursive studies about racist practices, as pointed out by Van Dijk (2008, 2005). According to this author, we do not need studies centered on ethnic or folkloric properties of the Black People. We need researches that consider the everyday racist practices of the dominant groups, observing the production and reproduction of these practices by the discourses (AU)
