Abstract | |
This dissertation has investigated which were the basis that founded Brazil¿s nineteenth-century history writings, and has perceived the literary press as a priviledged place for production and advertisement of knowledge, condition which first started to be acknowledged between 1830s and 1840s. For this purpose, two foreign magazines that were read in Brazil in that period have been selected: the French Revue des Deux Mondes (1829- ) and the Portuguese O Panorama (1837-1868), as well as three Brazilian magazines: Niterói (1836), Minerva Brasiliense (1843-1845) and Guanabara (1849-1856), in which a historical discourse took form and stood out. By exploring the essay, format selected by educated men from the period, it was sought to identify how the essay¿s features have developed, in order to guarantee that history would dialogue with the present, through a critical discourse that has created images and metaphors of possibilities. It was found that the nineteenth-century historical essay rendered the utopia a constituent part of history, incorporating the future time to the modern historiography (AU) | |
