This work aims to investigate the plurality of conceptions of the city at different moments of Belo Horizonte¿s history, as well as the memorialistic operations over these processes. The research¿s starting point is a study on the modernization of the state of Minas Gerais and its impact on the formation of a sensibility in relation to the urban, cultural and social transformation of life in a new location. The investigation attended to the need of problematizing the statement according to which the city was conceived through the importation of models, in order to create an alternative reading of the position of technicians, intellectuals and politicians within the construction of discourses on the modernization of the state of Minas Gerais, a process fueled by the construction of Belo Horizonte. The goal was to come up with an analysis that starts from a transnational perspective of history. In order to do so, this research has considered the articulation around memory during celebrations such as the state capital¿s centenary, the circulation of ideas and the construction of narratives about space, as well as possible readings on this process between the constructions of Belo Horizonte and Brasília. This work has prioritized the analysis of diverse sources, such as administrative documentation of the city and the state, the work of intellectuals and politics on the modernization of Minas Gerais, literary works and the technical and administrative material relative to the period between 1897 and 1961 (AU) | |
