Abstract

This research aims to explore how the Kiriri do Rio Verde, an indigenous people from Muquém de São Francisco, western Bahia, transform a land they occupied in March 2017 in the city of Caldas, southern Minas Gerais, in their place of life, work, affection and meaning. Looking at the construction processes of the kiriri territory in the south of Minas Gerais, this research deals with the kiriri wanderings, especially with the leadership of this people, since their departure in the eighties from the Mirandela Indigenous Land towards the west of Bahia. Also, this work presents how these families went to the South of Minas Gerais, exploring the kiriri conflicts in dynamic terms, which alternate between crisis and recomposition of relations. The kiriri territoriality has also led us to their own notion of the occupied land in the south of Minas Gerais. Terra Verde, as they refer to the land they have occupied in Minas Gerais, it is investigated here as a category that brings together functional and symbolic attributes that relate to the way of producing kiriri relationship between relatives, enchanted, tapuias and friends, showing the kiriri way of producing their territory. Moreover, we explore how the Kiriri have been building their relationships in southern Minas Gerais and expanded their support network, bringing together people to join their struggle to stay at Terra Verde, with the help of friends, non-governmental organizations and neighbors (AU)
