Abstract

Aldo Rossi (1931-1997)\'s work has an unequal importance for the architectural subject. Considered as one of the most important figure of the so-called post modernism, his extended production both theoretical and practical is conceived by the severe critic regarding the functionalism of the Modern Movement and by the use of history and symbolic perspective as a central question for the praxis of project. Within the wide panorama of research undertaken by Rossi, we investigate the influence of both the Enlightenment\'s treaties and buildings, and the languages adopted by metaphysic and surrealistic vanguard on his searches for forms and its temporalities, explained within L\'Architettura della città (1966) and Autobiografia scientifica (1981). In the former, the Milanese architect looked for conceiving a transmissible theory of project, founded on didactic and systematic processes. Based on a scientific and rational discourse, he developed precepts that adopt fatti urbani\'s forms as an extremely important reference for the discipline. In the latter, Rossi gets closer to a more poetical and metaphorical discourse. In this work, he narrates the composition processes and the semantic relations of his own works. He also clarifies the concept of città analoga and personal experience as fundamental devices for building ideation. Therefore, we consider these two instances of Rossi\'s work, one rational and the other poetical. They are not taken as conflicting aspects, but as complementary perspectives of his intellectual and professional trajectory. By this work and based on a careful reading of his texts, we expect to indicate an interpretation of his work away from those that define it as nostalgic and hermetic. (AU)
