Abstract

The work analyzes the discursive functioning of the Portuguese Language Museum. It tries to understand, in the theoretical-methodological perspective of the History of Linguistic Ideas, associated with Discourse Analysis, the effects of sense of this museum, considering the relationships it has with the history of Portuguese, with the Brazilian production of linguistic knowledge, with the museum as an institution and the process of political and social formation in Brazil with their public policies. Methodologically, it observes the way the museum operates: what it shows as being the Brazilian language and what it doesn't show, focusing in the effects of sense produced in this game between say/show and doesn't say/doesn't show. It concludes that the Portuguese Language Museum has equivocal and contradictory relations between language, subject and State (AU)
