Abstract

In our thesis, we aim to show that the idea that form determines content is constitutive of German idealism. We will start with its precursor, Kant, who will defend that the form of our knowledge of the object also determines its content, only, however, as an object of our knowledge and not in its existence. Next, we will see how this idea of the determinant form will be radicalized by Maimon, Fichte, Schelling, so that the form will be inseparable from the original content that would be the basis of our knowledge and that would provide its real foundation, even before all knowledge of it . Finally, we will see how Hegel will take this idea to its ultimate consequences, so that the form will not only be inseparable from the original content of our knowledge, but will even produce it first, by a process in which the form, denying itself, will become its own content.
