Abstract

Experience in higher education requires facing different demands, including interpersonal nature. Thus, it is understood that its development should be part of the objectives of higher education. This quasi-experimental research aimed to analyze the effect of an intervention on the development of social skills in the academic context and on the integration of higher education. The study had 29 participants: 15 participants in the control group (53.3% women; mean age 19 years) and 14 participants in the experimental group (50% women; average age 20 years). Characterization questionnaires and two pre- and post-test assessment tools were used, one to measure students' social skills - Social Skills Inventory 2 (IHS2-Del Prette) and the other to assess student reading about their integration into higher education - Academic Life Assessment Scale (EAVA). The program was developed in seven meetings (1h30 each), focusing on communication, assertive, interpersonal and empathic skill problems. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) program. The results between pre and post-test in the experimental group showed an increase in the total AAS score (p= 0.037), the total gross score of the IHS2-Del Prette (p= 0.008) and its subscales Factor 1- Assertive Conversation (p= 0.030), Factor 2 - Affective-Sexual Approach (p= 0.047) and Factor 5- Social Resourcefulness (p= 0.005). The results of the control group indicated a reduction in the raw score in IHS2-Del Prette Factor 1 - Assertive Conversion (p= 0.013). In addition, nine post-test GE correlations were found, namely: IHS2-Del Prette Total Score and Student Ability (r= 0.542), Non-Compulsory Activity Engagement (r= 0.569) and Conditions for Study (r= 0.574). IHS2-Del Prette Factor 1 "Assertive Conversation" and the EAVA Total Score (r= 0.535), "Student Skill" (r= 0.615), "Engagement in Non-Compulsory Activities" (r= 0.687) and "Conditions for study" (r= 0.701). As well as IHS2 Del Prette factor 3 "Expression of positive sentiment" and "Engagement in non-compulsory activities" (r= 0.641). Finally, factor 5 "Social Resourcefulness" and "Student Skill" (r= 0.681). The data show the effectiveness of the contextualized social skills program in higher education and suggest reflections and directions for future research (AU)
