Abstract

This thesis is an ethnography of social practices and forms of knowledge related to the worlds of plants and animals in maroon communities (comunidades quilombolas) of Rio Trombetas / Oriximiná in the State of Pará, Brazil. Its focus will be on the extraction of "Brazil nuts"(Bertholletia excelsa), activity of great importance to those communities - since the slavery period, when those communities were founded until the present day-. The effort will be to seek practices and conceptions concerning ways of socializing with nature with an emphasis on the relations and systems of production, transmission of knowledge and practices related to plants and animals (AU)
