Abstract

The present work is part of the current debate on ways of preserving and conserving industrial heritage. The general objective is to develop, systematize and evaluate methodological procedures for the perception of industrial spaces. As a contribution to methodological studies, urban criticism and the practices of the International Situationist movement (1957-1972) were used, especially the review of dérive and psychogeography. The Railway Sets of the cities of Presidente Prudente and Bauru, as well as the FEPASA Complex in Jundiaí, are analyzed as objects of Brazilian study. In Europe, the cases of the Cartuja Sets of Seville, in Spain, and the old Ostiense industrial neighborhood of Rome, in Italy, were investigated. It is argued in this research that the activation of the railway industrial heritage should start from a respectful reading to the pre-existing, not considering it as an isolated object and recognizing the latent requests of the place from the understanding of the behavioral motivations of its users.
