Abstract

In the last twenty years, we have seen substantial transformations both in the place that is attributed to peoples, cultures and traditions of African origin in the formation of Brazilian society, and in the way in which national identity is addressed in the debates and discussions dedicated to the investigation of race relations in contemporary times. These transformations follow a path that reflects a new perspective on the presence of these peoples and cultures, often informed and influenced by a concept that has gained prominence in discussions both in the academic and in the militancy world: the African Diaspora. The main objective of this research is to analyze, under a constructivist perspective, the impact of potential theoretical, epistemological and discursive shifts that the notion of African diaspora produces in the debate on the racial issue in Brazil. It is proposed, In this sense, a constructive study is proposed between the Department of African and African-American Studies at Harvard University (notably the WEB Du Bois Research Institute) and the Center for Afro-Brazilian Studies at the Federal University of São Carlos. The specific objective is to constructively analyze how productions / publications in journals of the specific nuclei, seeking to observe similarities and differences in the shape by these departments and nuclei conceived of the African presence and influence in their national societies. Such research aims, therefore, to investigate how to emerge and articulate, theoretically and discursively, the notion of African diaspora in the various productions and actions of these institutions.
