Abstract

This study case was developed from October 1996 to December 1998 as an educational-intervention-research. Qualitative methodology and participatory techniques were used to contribute to the development of environmental education in organizations. Toe participatory elaboration of an environmental education managing plan and its building process for the Campus Luiz de Queiroz (Campus of the São Paulo University in Piracicaba), has the following objectives: a) to promote the practice of participation through the expenence of an environmental education planning process, with the purpose of improving the groups participation, a individual learning and a gradual development of the required qualities for this practice; b) to describe this environmental education managing plan and its building process for the Campus Luiz de Queiroz; e) to contribute to the people's wishes and necessities related to the institutional goals; d) to identify the conditions that could facilitate this participatory process and the conditions that could make it difficult; e) to suggest methodological, conceptual and practical ways that allow institutions to a new educational atitude with the purp, ose of include the environmental education in its quotidian. This study case points out to an enlargement of the actions and reflections about the environment. It is possible to notice that the naturalized and "brak-to-little-pieces" environmental conception has been modified to an integrated conception. This kind of conception considerates the environment as a man building environment that also depends on historie, cultural, economics and politics factors. Although centralized decision-taker institutions bring resistance and difficulties to this kind of reflections and actions, it has come from different initiatives in order to reach new responses to the modemity's happenings.
