Abstract

Digital social networks made communicative dynamism possible, establishing itself as a new place of production and reception of information and generation of knowledge. In this scenario, online communication has given rise to new perspectives for the performance of contemporary social movements and for the political and social articulation of citizens. The general objective of this research is to reflect on the historical path of the democratization of communication and to estimate the potential of online communication, especially on Facebook of Intervozes and FNDC. Specifically, we intend to: understand the discussions about the historical processes of democratization of communication, especially in Brazil; describe and characterize the communication strategies in the fan pages of Intervozes and FNDC, as movements in favor of the democratization of communication; analyze the content produced by these movements in Facebook posts and how much this relates to the theme of democratization of communication; and to verify, in the light of the work of Intervozes and FNDC on Facebook, the role of online communication in the service of citizenship. It is an exploratory, analytical and descriptive research that used Content Analysis to analyze the fanpages of social movements that make up the research corpus. The results of the research suggest that Intervozes and FNDC clearly express their support for or rejection of the content they report, emphasize the importance of the social actions they exercise and, at times, share each other's posts. The FNDC fanpage covers 100% of the contents related to the democratization of communication, and the Intervozes fanpage, 86,32%, with the other 13,68% dealing with issues other than the theme, but which are still related to the theme: participation and citizenship. This study was supported by the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (Fapesp), which in addition to funding research in Brazil, also financed the Bolsa de Estágio de Pesquisa no Exterior, which was taken at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal (processes nº 2018 / 17825-6 and nº 2019 / 12815-5, respectively).
