| Abstract | |
This thesis with the interface between traditional agricultural systems, public research institutions and scientific plices operating on the agricultural divrsity of the country. Our goal is to undersand how these distinct processes of intervention in nature are related among themselves, sometimes in a conflictive way. We aim to capture the dynamics of this sometimes agonistic interaction on the basis a ethnographic study of institutions, in the spirit of the Anthropology of Science. To this end we carried out a case study in the Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária/EMBRAPA, the foremost national research institucion which harbours plant collections representing the country's agricultural diversity. Through the analysis of the process by means of which a world policy of ex situ was established, of the relationship of this policy and the conservation acytivities developed by Embrapa, we discussed the concept of conservation involved in agronomic science. In particular, we discuss the production and circulation of varieties of Manihot Esculenta Crantz among difstinct agricultural systems, hopint to contribute to a discussion of the role of these systems to the production and conservation of agrobiodiversity, arguing that a complementary role of ex sity and in situ conservation systems is important to oppose the increase genetic erosion of cultivated plants in the country (AU) | |
