Abstract

The referred master's thesis presents discussions about the alternative journalism as a theoretical possibility for carrying out a critical analysis of information units and production processes of this communicational dynamic. This journalistic bias had its boom around the leaden times of the military dictatorship (1964-1985); it is a counter hegemonic perspective, which has production parameters that aim to promote reflections in the face of oppressive situations; it is aligned with the interests of the society; it exposes a multiplicity of political and social points of view, which serve as a strategic bridge for debates to be expanded and, therefore, understands the public as an active subject. Although it's a perspective that has been emerging for almost half of the century, this study seeks to investigate how the alternative press is being developed nowadays. In an attempt to enrich the theoretical framework, we made connections with the Epistemologies from the South (SANTOS, 2010), Cultural Studies and with the studies of Mediations (MARTÍN-BARBERO, 1997), as they are inserted in the field of cultural sociology, which are concerned with the social processes of all cultural production and even present in the forms of production that can be designated as ideologies, which also understand that worldviews are not individual, but collective. Based on the main characteristics of alternative journalism, pointed out by scholars referenced in the work, this exploratory study proposes an analysis of coverage and journalistic content conveyed in two media, the Portal Sátira website, from the city of Parintins, in Amazonas, and Jornal Dois, from Bauru/SP, in order to understand how the present communicational dynamics has been developed nowadays. The methodology used was inspired by the Content Analysis (CA), proposed by Laurence Bardin (2009), articulated with the Interview, used here as a technical procedure for data collection. It was understood that alternative journalism can be articulated in order to contribute to the deconstruction of inequality, silencing and exclusion of knowledge, through balanced, critical coverage that privileges the plurality of voices.
