Abstract | |
This thesis examines the possibility of an aesthetic dimension focused on the visual works of art from the hermeneutics of Paul Ricœur. A kind of metaphoricity would be present in such works of art, and the metaphor would be a privileged model for the analysis of figurative art and allusive figuration (abstract painting). The expansion of his theories of metaphor and fiction and the modulation of the vocabulary used by Ricœur enables an analysis of other aesthetic experiences, going beyond the works of literature, which are the philosopher’s privileged focus. Such expansion and modulation, based on theories of interpretation and vocabularies suggested by Ricœur, enables the insertion of the notion of metaphoricity and aesthetic figuration in the hermeneutical debate on the understanding of the work of art. The "seeing-as" in the interpretation of works of art will guide the approach to the cognitive aspects of the aesthetic experience. The heuristic function of the redescription, common to the theory of metaphor and scientific models, will guide the approach to the fictional and the metaphorical reference in Ricœur’s hermeneutics. The thesis formulates an aesthetic dimension coherent to such hermeneutics and proposes a semantical analysis of the notion of metaphorical truth. The thesis also puts forth an articulation between the notion of metaphoricity and aesthetical figuration, which would allow the application of his theory of metaphor to the analysis of the work of art. Such articulation is presented as a discursive, figurative and fictional strategy in the connection between the verbal and visual aspects of language. (AU) | |
