Abstract

The globalized neoliberal political-ideological dimension has influenced the social and urban dimensions, directing the commodification of life by disregarding any movement that is not intended to conform to the financial logic. In this sense, the research is about the common, a concept that is defined by collective resources, shared social practices and is part of the composition of urban resistances of contemporary social production. The central aim is to build a theoretical panorama, elucidated by a range of common practices, which include self-styled practices and those not directly related to the term, but consistent with it, emphasizing digital platforms for civic participation in the fight against Covid-19. These platforms provide democratic spaces to solve collective problems and generate new exchange systems. The main practice addressed in this research was the Open Platform for Science and Citizen Participation COLAB São Carlos. As the researcher was inserted in the construction process, the thesis used the action-research method. The research was able to recover the origin of the concept and systematize it through the articulation between the similarity of approach of each author. It was possible to nuance the Latin American tensions and translations through the confrontation of the common with the concept of good living and the struggles of urban movements in Brazil. Finally, it has been understood that current practices in the digital environment directly affect our urban management models. However, the reach of digital platforms for civic participation, as well as the practices of the common in the urban space are limited to local actions and require institutional alliances to reach an effective level of public involvement towards structural change.
