Abstract

During the urbanization process, economic activities linked to the spheres of commerce, services and consumption have always played key roles in urban life, composing the structuring of cities in their forms, processes and contents. This dissertation has as general objective to define and analyze the urban agglomeration of Londrina-PR, in its current phase of spatial structuring, encompassing the distribution pattern of commercial and service establishments, the spatial processes in course and the consumer-oriented spatial practices and strategies of city dwellers and shopkeepers. Due to the prominent presence of these activities, as well as the centrality exercised in the urban network, the urban agglomeration of Londrina was delimited, consisting of seven cities in the northern region of Paraná, chosen based on criteria such as spatial continuity of interurban relations and displacements, continuity and territorial proximity among urban fabrics. To achieve the proposed objective, it was adopted a variety of methodological procedures, both quantitative and qualitative: we combined data from the National Registry of Addresses for Statistical Purposes (CNEFE) and information from the National Classification of Economic Activities (CNAE) to assess establishments' spatial distribution pattern, which were multicentric and multicentralized; to understand this distribution empirical facet, we carried out fieldwork in researched area localities; in order to understand contents referring to city dwellers and shopkeepers spatial practices and strategies, semi-structured interviews were carried out. Gathering the results obtained, we characterize that Londrina's urban agglomeration current phase of cities spatial structuring reveals socio-spatial inequality, from the spheres of commerce and consumption, identified by the existence of distinct geographic scales, built by intense differentiations in spatial practices and strategies, with different realization reaches and possibilities.
