Abstract

The use of the traditional cutting fluid (mineral base) has been avoided, because several occupational diseases and aggressions against the environment has been attributed to its use. The technological development of the cutting fluids has been producing some solutions, such as some fluids, which are non aggressive to the man and also to the environment. The present work studies the use o cutting fluids on machining and proposes a methodology to compare the performance amongst them in real machining conditions. Some application techniques were used, such as MQL (Minimum Quantity of Lubricant), applying only ar and dry machining, when end milling AISI H13 steel in its hardened state (50 - 52 HRc). The experiments demonstrated that it is possible to establish a comparison amongst several cooling/lubrication conditions, based on the Machining Energy (MEn), on the Accumulated Energy (AEn) on the workpiece and on the Index of Classification of the Cutting Fluids (ICCf) (AU)
