Abstract

This work is set in the context of oceanic engineering and maritime technology, presenting a computational study of the vortex-shedding phenomenon from bluff bodies inserted in a flow of Newtonian incompressible viscous fluid. The problem is approached from the two-dimensional standpoint. Its governing equations are discretized through the Finite Element Method (FEM) and are implemented with the Fractional Step Method (FSM). Validation of the numerical simulations was achieved through the study of the flow around a single circular cylinder. Then, the behavior of the hydrodynamic forces on two cylinders arranged in tandem configuration for distinct gaps between their axes under Reynolds number 200, is evaluated. The results are confronted with those from literature. (AU)
