Abstract

This dissertation presents a theoretical view point and a practical study on percussion interpretation under technological mediation. It compares repertoire and performance perspectives relating pieces for percussion instruments and technological interfaces. There is a historical contextualization concerning to technological processes used in the Twenty Century Music and a discussion on design of sound material, musical gesture and instrumental set-ups. Mediation processes related to repertoire performance for interactive multiple percussion are discussed, and pieces involving technological processes such as live electronics, interfaces, audiovisuals and scenic resources are analyzed. Research methodology was based on interactive workshops in which new music performance perspectives were studied. Traditional techniques were linked to new interfaces prototypes enhancing author¿s instrumental practices. New interpretation strategies were developed aiming to enlarge understanding on interpretation and interaction with instrumental techniques and diverse technological mediation resources. Different languages and medium related to these performance processes were also studied. Finally, a set of pieces performed and analyzed under an interpretative point of view is presented. (AU)
