Abstract

This research aims to study the relation between the spatiality defined by the industry in the São Paulo-Brasília axis, and the particular case of the micro-region of Uberlândia (MG) in the course of the industrial deconcentration process, especially the period between 1996 and 2007. Observing the dynamic of the industrial activities location in the São Paulo-Brasília axis we find that the sectors of higher technological intensity are concentrated near the city of São Paulo, while to the more distant regions migrate particularly the industries of lower technological intensity, mainly associated with the agro-industrial complexes. The case of Uberlândia, which industrial development has been linked to the Paulista economy since the beginning of XXth century, shows the same condition of São Paulo-Brasília axis. In this microregion, especially after 1996, the lower technological intensity production is based on the beverage and food sector. This industry is associated with the transformation of cerrado natural resources for the processing of grains and meat (AU)
