Abstract

The present study analyses the so called Manguebeat, a movement from Recife (Brazil) that starts in the beginning of the 90's (20th century) which main characteristic is the appropriation and hybridization of different popular/national culture material, and also the materials from the mass culture or pop culture. This research contextualizes the movement in the contemporary popular music view and phonograph industry through the relationship with the new recording technical process and musical production, thinking about the use of the sampler besides the recycled appropriation as esthetics. The discuss of the proximity and contrasts with another artistic movements - Armorial and Tropicália - is here too, basically for the reflection of the conceits as global and local culture, and tradition and technology (AU)
